Tenn-Tom Nitty-Gritty Updates

Last Updated: March 20, 2007

The following update information applies only to the sixth edition of the "Tenn-Tom Nitty-Gritty CruiseGuide, the last edition to be published.

  Fred Myers:

CRUISE SECTION
Mile 54.0
The entrance to Bates Lake continues to be troublesome for boats drafting more than about four feet. Enter this anchorage dead slow at or very close to the center and keep a close watch on water depth. A reasonable alternative anchorage is Alabama River Cut-Off at Mile 52.8.

Mile 307.4
Marina Cove Marina has been sold to Ed Orton who plans to change the name to Pirate's Chest Marina, add covered slips and make other improvements.

Mile 448.4
Construction of the new Pickwick Pines Marina, slated to begin in late 2005, continues to be delayed. If and when built, the marina will be straight west of Daymark 448.4 and about midway between Yellow Creek Port, a commercial facility, and Aqua Yacht Harbor Marina. For more information call 662-279-0676.

MILE 449.7
Grand Harbor Marina was sold in late 2006 to David Woods, a local businessman whose nearby Fountain boat dealership is one of the Nation's largest. An added touch to the fuel dock are four large wood lawn gliders with canvas tops. They provide visitors a pleasant way to relax with the scenery while enjoying snacks from the Ship Store.
